What Is a Mini Split System?
A mini split (also called a ductless mini split or ductless heat pump) is a heating and cooling system that delivers conditioned air directly into a room or zone without requiring ductwork. Each system consists of an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor air handlers. They are controlled independently per zone, meaning you can set different temperatures in different rooms — perfect for vacation homes, mountain cabins, additions, sunrooms, and whole-home replacements.
Why Mini Splits Are Perfect for Mountain Homes
Most vacation homes and cabins in the NC High Country were built before modern central HVAC was standard. Running new ductwork through an existing home is expensive and disruptive — it means cutting into walls, ceilings, and floors. Mini split systems require only a small hole through an exterior wall for the refrigerant line, giving you all the comfort of a full HVAC system with minimal impact on your home's structure or character.
